Dear BPS Community:

Last Wednesday morning, we gathered as a school community to dedicate the Lt. Dustin DeMonte Gymnasium at Greene-Hills School — a heartfelt tribute to a man whose life continues to inspire us through his courage, humility, and unwavering service to others.
Lt. Dustin DeMonte exemplified what it means to lead with compassion and integrity. His commitment to the Bristol community, his service as a police officer, and the kindness he showed to others left a lasting impact on all who knew him. While this dedication honors his memory, it also serves as a reminder to our students of the values he embodied every day: honor, selflessness, perseverance, and community.
The ceremony was filled with reflection, gratitude, and love as family members, city leaders, students, and staff came together to celebrate Dustin’s legacy. We are deeply thankful to the DeMonte family for allowing us to honor his life in such a meaningful way and for sharing his story with future generations of Greene-Hills students.  Thank you to Principal Gaudet and the Greene-Hills Community for opening the doors for us, and to the 5th-grade choir for touching our hearts with a beautiful rendition of "For Good" from the musical Wicked.  Special thanks to former Greene-Hills Art Teacher Mr. Joseph Jonhson for creating the incredible banner honoring his legacy.
May this gymnasium forever stand as more than just a place for athletics and school spirit — may it serve as a daily reminder that one person’s dedication to others can inspire an entire community.

June is Student Safety Month:
Throughout this month, we are highlighting the importance of keeping our students safe, physically, emotionally, and socially. By working together at school, at home, and throughout our community, we can promote kindness, awareness, responsibility, and well-being for every child. Thank you to our staff, families, and community partners for helping create safe, supportive learning environments where all students can thrive. Let's continue to make student safety a priority every day!

BAIMS Iron Falcons at the RECF Northeast Aerial Drone Regionals:
Students from Bristol Arts and Innovation Magnet School (BAIMS) achieved outstanding success this season in the RECF Northeast Aerial Drone Competition (Mission 2026), a STEM-focused program that challenges middle school students in teamwork, drone piloting, autonomous flight programming, and engineering communications.

Team 2026A, The Iron Falcons, earned qualification for the RECF Aerial Drone Competition Regional Championship by winning two prestigious awards. The team was named Teamwork Mission Champion, recognizing the alliance that achieved the highest score in the finals, and also received the Middle School All-Around Champion Award, which honors teams that excel in both judged and performance-based categories. This award recognizes exceptional competition performance, strong written and verbal communication skills, outstanding sportsmanship, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence.

In addition to their competitive success, students had a unique opportunity to engage with developers of NASA’s Dragonfly mission, an innovative nuclear-powered drone that will explore Saturn’s moon Titan. Scheduled to launch in 2028, Dragonfly will study Titan’s prebiotic chemistry and potential habitability. Students were able to observe and interact with a Dragonfly prototype, providing a memorable real-world connection to STEM careers and cutting-edge aerospace technology.
Congratulations to The Iron Falcons:

  • Zoe Bianco (Grade 8)
  • Joeshaun Brown (Grade 7)
  • James Dailey (Grade 7)
  • Colin Lachowski (Grade 7)
Their accomplishments reflect the innovation, teamwork, and dedication that define Bristol Public Schools and serve as an excellent example of student success in STEM education.
